The De Beers Group of Companies has an opportunity for an experienced leader and expert in reliability engineering fundamentals to join the Mobile Maintenance department at the Gahcho Kué Mine Site based in the Northwest Territories. Reporting to the Senior Mining Manager, this position will oversee the development, implementation and optimization of the Asset Maintenance Management Strategy and as such will manage Maintenance Tactics, Condition Monitoring, Work Management, Defect Elimination, Planning and Technical Expediting for the execution of the Maintenance Management system.

What the Role Entails:

  • Ensures maintenance tasks performed are within the safe operating procedures and if not ensures a comprehensive job safety analysis is completed;
  • Manages the Mobile Maintenance Planning Department to ensure accurate scheduling of all maintenance of mobile equipment, including accurately capturing downtime;
  • Implements and updates an asset management system that is aligned with the larger Asset Management Strategy, including compiling reports on the machinery availability;
  • Manages and oversees the maintenance services contractor;
  • Manages and controls working costs and capital budgets;
  • Evaluates systems and procedures to gauge effectiveness and then develops and implements alternative systems when necessary;
  • Works effectively within multi-disciplinary teams and manages relationships with various stakeholders in order to meet departmental objectives; and
  • Ensures effective talent management as well as advises and supports team with complex tasks.

What you Need for this Role:

  • Registered Professional Engineer with a degree in relevant technical discipline;
  • Post-graduate in Engineering or practical experience in a context of similar complexity;
  • Experience in Open Pit mining with fleets that support large tonnage operations including shovels, trucks, production drills, ancillary and other support equipment (10+ years);  
  • Experience in similar leadership role (5+ years);
  • Ability to apply Reliability Engineering Principles in the mining industry;
  • Ability to progress the department by means of thought leadership, innovation, creative thinking, influence and mentoring;
  • Skills in communication, finance, budget preparation and time management;
  • Understanding of the full mining/resource extraction value chain and its key drivers: ore body through to extraction, processing, infrastructure and mining;
  • Knowledge of maintenance systems and planning, the NWT Mine Health & Safety Act and other relevant safety acts and legislation; and a
  • Commitment to Safety, Health and Environmental standards.
