Context:

The purpose of T&S in Anglo American is to work together with operations to deliver step change value through integrated technical excellence. The T&S group are globally located and work across Business Units and geographies. T&S are responsible for providing technical operating input to the Business Units, developing best in class operating practices and implementing the Anglo American Operating Model, leading innovation and technology advances in operating activities across all assets and functions; advance the Group’s exploration opportunities, eliminating fatalities, improving health and safety of all employees and contractors; and ensuring the Group operates to world class environmental standards

Purpose:

Acts as the integrator of all T&S disciplines in order to deliver a consistent and clear plan to the Business Units. Facilitates T&S and BU interaction by establishing relationships in both organisations that enable collaboration and joint accountability

Typical Tasks:

T&S Planning

  • Ownership of the T&S Planning process incl development, implementation and execution of the T&S processes and systems
  • Establish and keep up to date breakthrough programme charters
  • Ensure alignment of T&S Planning process (ie milestones, deliverables, etc) with IPP and BU processes to deliver on business expectations
  • Drive effective stakeholder participation and adequate process adoption and compliance
  • Build strong stakeholder networks across all Disciplines and Business Planning Leads to ensure integration and alignment of T&S work
  • Optimise the relationship between people, process and systems (Business Units and Disciplines) to attain the consistent delivery on business expectations
  • Contribute as an active member of the Business Planning leadership team regarding all matters e.g. safety, initiatives, day to day operations, people, strategy

Performance Management and Reporting

  • Collaborate and facilitate with BU and T&S members to the T&S performance management and reporting processes
  • Lead the analysis and implementation of internal performance management and reporting systems and develop a tracking and reporting strategy and specification to support an integrated T&S performance management capability (incl reporting to Group Director)
  • Drive adoption of implemented process to ensure expected outcomes are achieved

Management routines

  • Support Group Director in communicating T&S strategy and direction
  • Support elaboration of regular top leadership engagement material, etc.
  • Monitor and report BU buy-in and engagement on key T&S initiatives

Formal qualifications:

  • Required: an undergraduate qualification (Bachelors / Honours degree) in a relevant Technical (such as Mining, Engineering, Processing, Geosciences), Business or Commercial discipline.
  • Further qualifications that are desirable include: postgraduate qualification (Masters or Doctoral degree or equivalent) in a relevant discipline

Knowledge and Experience of:

  • Must have extensive practical experience in a role and context of similar complexity
  • Must have extensive experience and demonstrated success in a similar business planning and management positions within a global organisation
  • Expertise in financial and commercial dynamics of the business
  • Mining sector experience and an in-depth understanding of the mining value chain
  • Anglo American’s key geographies, commodities and operational portfolio
  • Demonstrated understanding of the complexities of internal and external drivers and their impact on strategic decision making
  • Demonstrated timely, pragmatic and effective decision-making drawing on limited inputs and sometimes incomplete information
  • Track record of executing practical initiatives to be implemented and demonstration of successful delivery and ongoing improvement

Safety:

  • Provides a consistent outstanding role model in relation to safety practices with a deep understanding of the importance of safety

Other requirements to perform the work effectively:

  • Travel Requirement: Regular local and international travel may be required.
  • Required: ability to communicate in English (advanced level for verbal and written).
  • Ability to speak additional languages is desirable. Particularly Spanish or Portuguese
