Context:

Discovery and Geosciences aims to deliver value for Anglo American from our mineral endowment via safe discovery of new mineral endowment; delivery of step-change operational geosciences effectiveness; and quantification and communication of our resources and mineral endowment. The purpose is to deliver value by applying various geoscience skills and knowledge to characterise and evaluate our mineral endowment; and ensure that good geoscience enables effective operation of our Discovery projects and mines.

Purpose:

Provide in-field support to GDG teams in the form of assistance with tasks, training, coaching and mentoring. Also provide professional SHEC guidance and advice to support the implementation of GDG and Anglo American SHEC requirements.

Typical Tasks:

  • Promote the utilisation of the GDG SHEC Management System in line with ISO14001, ISO45001, SHE Way and Social Way requirements
  • Engage with and influence key stakeholders on the implementation of Anglo American S&SD requirements and the GDG SHEC Management System at the country level by providing advice to local Discovery Managers, Heads of Depts, Project Leaders and SHEC Specialists
  • Coach and mentor GDG SHEC Specialists in SHEC performance reporting using Enablon, in line with Anglo American and GDG requirements.
  • Lead or participate in incident investigations utilising the Learning From Incidents (LFI) methodology; coach and mentor country teams in the LFI methodology
  • Lead or engage and influence stakeholders to implement risk management in line with Operational Risk Management (ORM); coach and mentor country teams in implementation of ORM and application of risk assessment methodologies
  • Support the reporting of GDG SHEC performance to both GDG Leadership and Safety and Sustainable Development (S&SD) Team
  • Support the GDG Global Training System by contributing to the Training Needs Analysis and monitoring compliance to SHEC Mandatory training
  • Drive a culture of strong performance, vigilance and responsibility in the areas of SHEC across GDG
  • Participate and mentor SHEC Specialists in leading on-site audits of country level implementation of Anglo American and GDG SHEC requirements in line with the approved Audit Program
  • Contribute to SHEC talent management and development
  • Provide advice to T&S colleagues on GDG’s operating context and operational implementation experience in forums and/or during the development/review of Anglo American standards and guidelines that are relevant to GDG
  • Provide support to GDG country teams to understand and manage global and country specific security risks
  • Support GDG in meeting Business Integrity and Code of Conduct requirements, actively role model the required behaviours

Formal qualifications:

  • An undergraduate qualification (Bachelors/Honours degree or equivalent) in a relevant discipline;
  • Lead Auditor qualification (TL, OHS, EM)
  • Train the Trainer
  • Project management qualification in a relevant methodology
  • Familiar and competent with the Enablon system

Role-specific knowledge:

  • Understanding of operational processes, competing priorities and key challenges/barriers to achieving SHEC outcomes
  • ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 implementation and audit knowledge
  • Anglo American SHEC policies and standards
  • Anglo American methodologies related to Operational Risk Management and Learning from Incidents (or similar industry equivalent)
  • Fluent in English (Spanish and/or Portuguese desirable)

Safety:

  • Knowledge of safety policies, procedures and the important role of consistently demonstrating required behaviours and championing safety values
  • Provides a consistent outstanding role model in relation to safety practices with a deep understanding of the importance of safety

Other requirements to perform the work effectively:

  • Fluent written and spoken English is a pre-requisite. Spoken and written Spanish and / or Portuguese languages would be an advantage
  • Frequent travel to sites as required
