The De Beers Group has an opportunity for a motivated and energetic individual to join the Site Services Department at the Gahcho Kué Mine located in the Northwest Territories. Reporting to the Site Services Supervisor, and working a two (2) weeks in / two (2) weeks out rotation, the incumbent will be involved in operating site services cranes and heavy equipment as well as any other tasks as assigned by the Site Services Supervisor.  The ideal candidate will be one who enjoys multitasking, is results oriented and is committed to safe working practices and strives for zero harm. 

What the Role Entails:

  • Work with team to conduct job risk assessment and safe work plans;
  • Report all incidents, near misses and unsafe working conditions to Supervisor;
  • Perform all duties adhering to safety and participate in shop safety program and tool box talks;
  • Operate 50 / 130 tonne cranes or higher;  
  • Interpret lifting capacity tables and ensures load is fixed and within the weight limit;
  • Communicate with assigned crews to determine crane placement and items to be moved;  
  • Perform pre-operational inspection, safety checks, test lifts and calculate crane capacities and weight to prepare for rigging and hoisting;
  • Comply with the standards and regulations that govern the operation of cranes;
  • Operate various heavy equipment (loaders, graders etc) as trained and certified;
  • Conduct daily safety checks and inspections of the equipment before operating;
  • Monitor equipment and report any problems according to operating procedures;
  • Follow procedures and standards such as safety, environmental, and code of conduct; and
  • Communicates effectively via two-way radio.

What you Need for this Role:

  • Certified Journeyman or Red Seal in Crane and Hoisting Equipment;
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience with operating mobile cranes;
  • Minimum of 5 Years’ experience with operating heavy equipment;
  • Experience in mining industry and working in remote sites;
  • Ability to work in a safety orientated environment;
  • Ability to work well independently and within a diverse team.

Beneficial If You Have:

  • Experience in grading aircraft runways
